‘BIDI’
Irton Firecracker
DoB: 28/10/86
(Ch Dandyhow April Fool ex Lochmaddy Mist at Irton)
Our firstborn was Irton Firecracker – named for her distinctive red coat. Bidi was from a litter of three bitches and chosen by Brin Sullivan for her distinctive red coat and outstanding movement - obvious even as a young pup. She was very special being our firstborn and gave us lots of high moments in the show ring.
She was our first homebred Border to qualify for Crufts ( a first place was required then) by winning a super junior class at the Scottish club under Anne Roslin-Williams “Junior Bitch (14): Fryer’s Irton Firecracker, not one of the “pretty” ones, but what a nice bitch to go over, good head, strong muzzle, ears rather plain which detract from expression, good shoulders, excellent body shape, super quarters, let down hocks which she uses, stands balanced and move with great drive, excellent coat and pelt legs and feet; 2 Jackson’s Stonekite Charisma by Clipstone, classy, lovely head and expression, excellent coat built on nice lines, in this hotly contested class (really liked the first five and could have than had another nice line up from the others) she just could not match the long, free stride of 1, easily spanned and come up perfectly balanced;”  She delighted us even more by going on to win  a class at that show, her next great achievement was to qualify for the stud book which she did at SKC later that year. Although she was a consistent winner at championship level she never achieved a major award but does have the distinction of being the only Irton ever to achieve BIS at a general open show.
She was a very civilised bitch and for many years was my constant companion when bird watching – being the only Irton who could be trusted to behave herself when she wasn’t being watched!
Her first litter was a mating to Paul Cheesman’s Glenlea Sunburst of Todgrove. This dog was a consistent show winner with reserve CC’s to his credit but was also a well known worker – sadly he died working early the following year when trapped underground- and we could not repeat the mating.
